JOB SUMMARY:

The Defense Contract Management Agency (DCMA) is an independent combat support agency within the Department of Defense (DoD).  We are the DoD's contract manager, responsible for ensuring Federal acquisition programs (systems, supplies, and services) are delivered on time within projected cost or price, and meet performance requirements.

The position of Computer Engineer (Intern) is a position in the DCMA Keystone Program.  DCMA uses the Expedited Hiring Authority to recruit and attract exceptional individuals into the Federal Workforce. The DCMA Keystone Intern program is generally a three-year developmental program.  

 

NOTE:   During the Keystone Intern Program, participants will receive specialized formal classroom training, computer-based training, and on-the-job (OJT) training.  The training program will consist of the following:

 

* Report initially to CMO/Center for at least 2 weeks.

Travel TDY for four weeks to attend training at a DCMA Learning Campus (DLC).

Spend 6 months in the CMO/Center for more OJT and developmental training.

Return possibly to the DLC for 1 week assessment/update training.

Return to the CMO/Center for more OJT and developmental training.

Return as necessary to the DLC throughout the 2nd year for additional training.

  • Position may be filled at the GS-05 or GS-07 grade level.
  • Salary does include applicable locality pay.
  • PCS and Agency Recruitment Incentives may be offered on a case-by-case basis.
  • DNRP: Defense National Relocation Program is not authorized.

  • This is a Non-Critical Sensitive position.

MAJOR DUTIES:

  • Completes classroom and on-the-job training to acquire, exercise, and maintain knowledge of the duties inherent in the performance of professional general engineering duties in support of a senior engineer who is responsible for two or more engineering functions, in connection with assigned products, processes or systems.
  • Provides technical assistance to the supervisor of record or other senior engineers in progressively responsible assignments for defense systems and components during various phases of development, production and sustainment.
  •  Evaluates and develops recommended solutions to complex technical problems.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Applicants must meet the Basic Requirement for the Professional Engineering Positions (0800) listed in paragraph A or B of the Individual Occupational Requirements. To view OPM Qualifications, please go to the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) website at:  http://www.opm.gov/qualifications.

You may start at the GS-05 if you have the following qualifications:  Successful completion of a full 4-year course of study in an accredited college or university leading to a bachelor's or higher degree that included a major field of study or specific course requirements generally as stated in paragraph A in the Individual Occupational Requirements. Or, appropriate combination of education and experience that is typically specified in paragraph B of the Individual Occupational Requirements.

General Experience is described as:

  • Evaluation of the adequacy of specifications and/or drawings.
  • Experience drawing conclusions and making recommendations by analyzing facts, conditions and data.
  • Communicating effectively orally and in writing.

You may start at the GS-07 if you have the following qualifications:  One (1) full year of graduate level education with any major field of study; OR Superior Academic Achievement; OR one (1) year of Specialized Experience equivalent to at least the GS-05 level. 

Specialized Experience is described as:

         ·    Experience software engineering research and development activities and technological advances.

·    Experience principles, concepts and methodology of computer systems management and computer programming functions.

·    Experience software engineering principle and practices.

    Superior Academic Achievement is obtained through:  (1) Class standing - being in the upper third of the graduating class in the college, university, or major subdivision based on completed courses; (2) Grade-point average - (a) having a grade-point average of 3.0 or higher out of a possible 4.0 as recorded on the official transcript, or as computed based on 4 years of education, or as computed based on courses completed during the final 2 years of the curriculum; or (b) having a grade point average of 3.5 or higher out of a possible 4.0 based on the average of the required courses completed in the major field or the required courses in the major field completed during the final 2 years of the curriculum;  or, (3) Election to membership in a national scholastic honor society.


Education:
