Intermittent LPN positions are available, all shifts, both campuses of the VA Hudson Valley Health Care System. The Incumbent is accountable to the Nurse Manager for the administration and evaluation of nursing care delivery to assigned patients. Incumbent participates in the interdisciplinary team in the development, implementation and evaluation of the patients’ treatment plan. Interacts with patients in groups in accordance with the treatment plan; observes, identifies and responds to the patients’ needs for nursing, medication and equipment-assisted care. Incumbent may be required to travel to the Castle Point Campus/CBOCs.

BASIC REQUIREMENTS:
- U.S. citizenship.
- Graduate of a school or practical or vocational nursing approved by the appropriate State agency and/or accredited by the National League for Nursing Accrediting Commission.
- Current, full, active and unrestricted license as an LPN
- Minimum 2-3 years LPN experience.
GRADE DETERMINATIONS: Requirements: (1) Completion of at least one year of additional qualifying experience at the GS-4 level or equivalent, fully meeting all of the performance requirements for the GS-5 LPN/LVN. (2) Ability to assist RN and/or MD/DO to appropriately prioritize overall patient care needs and adjust plans for care delivery. Making astute observations of subtle, less obvious changes in patient's condition. (3) Ability to proactively assist the RN or MD/DO in addressing patient's needs for medication'/treatments, accurately administering prescribed mediations/treatments according to established policies/procedures and appropriately recording administration and patient's response to medications/treatments received. (4) Knowledge and skill to promptly recognize potential urgent or emergency patient care situations, seek assistance of the RN and/or MD/DO for appropriate team intervention and effectively intervene, as directed, to assure the continuation of optimal, safe and therapeutic patient care delivery. (5) Assists individuals or groups of patients and their families to take an active role in promoting healthy lifestyles for more positive patient outcomes. (6) Strong background in Medical-Surgical Nursing and/or Specialty medical areas preferred.
