This is a Direct Hire Public Notice; under this recruitment procedure, each location/ installation, identified in this Public Notice will accept applications and make selections for vacancies as they occur. These positions are being filled under Medical Direct Hiring Authority for certain civilian healthcare professional positions and are located Air Force-Wide. Positions may be filled as permanent, temporary or term with a full-time or part-time work schedule. Pay will vary by geographic location.

DUTIES:

·        Provide appropriate treatment, with emphasis on maximizing function, both in the psychosocial and physical restorative areas.  Assess effectiveness of treatment daily and modifies, as necessary, always using appropriate treatment modalities/activities.

·        Provide direct patient care without regard to the patients’ medical complexity, diagnosis, age, or location and demonstrates knowledge of safety precautions and contraindications for particular diagnoses and disabilities. Demonstrate professionalism in accurately evaluating and treating all assigned patients.

·        Direct planned treatment programs for patients that promote recovery and restoration to pre-morbid functional capacity or to the maximum functional potential.  Treatment includes fabrication of splints and other prosthetic items within the purview of occupational therapy. 

·        Identify measurable attainable goals; adapt treatment plan to meet the changing needs of the patient identified through the continual evaluation process.  Document timely and accurately via electronic record keeping procedures.

·        Initiate referrals when appropriate to provide the highest quality patient care in a timely manner.  Demonstrate the ability to work effectively with patients, their caretakers and other interdisciplinary staff.

·        Demonstrate professional discretion and in complex cases seeks consultation from the Chief, Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation.  Participate in peer review processes, and staff meetings.

QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:

Degree: Applicants must have completed successfully (1) an occupational therapy curriculum approved by the American Occupational Therapy Association at the time the curriculum was completed, and (2) the clinical affiliation requirements prescribed by the school. The curriculum may have been a bachelor's degree program, a post-baccalaureate certificate program, or an entry-level master's degree program.

 

Note: Applicants who have completed an approved curriculum at either the baccalaureate or post-baccalaureate certificate level and who subsequently completed a substantial program of clinical practice of less than 1 year, e.g., 6 months, planned to assure professional competence to practice in the occupation may be rated eligible for GS-6, rather than GS-5.

 

AND

 

In addition to meeting the basic entry qualification requirements above, applicants must have specialized experience and/or directly related education in the amounts shown below.

 

GS-07:  One year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-5 level.  GS-09:  One year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-7 level. GS-11:  One year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-9 level.  GS-12:  One year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-11 level.  Specialized is experience which may have been gained while implementing the principles and practices of occupational therapy to provide clinical services, supervise or train students and therapist, or perform research with people who have impaired capacities for performing activities appropriate to their age group. Experience also requires knowledge of the structure and function of the human body, environmental influences, human development, physical and psycho-social dysfunctions, and skill in developing treatment plans to teach new skills, restore performance, or learn compensating skills.

 

OR

EDUCATION:  In lieu of specialized experience, applicants can substitute the following levels of education:

GS-07 = 1 year of graduate-level education in a related field or superior academic achievement .

GS-09 = 2 years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to a master's degree or master's or equivalent graduate degree in a related field.

GS-11 = 3 years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to a Ph.D. degree or Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree in a related field.

 

OR

Combination of Graduate Education and Professional Experience: Combinations of successfully completed graduate level education and specialized experience may be used to meet total experience requirements. Only graduate level education in excess of the amount required for the next lower grade level may be combined with experience.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES (KSAs):  Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the following areas: 

 

1.    Knowledge of principles and techniques in the occupational therapy assessment and treatment of occupational, cognitive, and psychological functional deficits. 

2.    Knowledge and ability to apply all health and safety regulations to minimize and mitigate risks in the provision of patient care and environmental maintenance.

3.    Skill in interacting and collaborating with a variety of health professionals.

4.    Ability to provide prevention and wellness services, including screening and health promotion. 

 

 

PART-TIME OR UNPAID EXPERIENCE: Credit will be given for appropriate unpaid and or part-time work.  You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week.

FOREIGN EDUCATION: Education completed in foreign colleges or universities may be used to meet the requirements. You must show proof the education credentials have been deemed to be at least equivalent to that gained in conventional U.S. education program.  It is your responsibility to provide such evidence when applying.

ADDITIONAL CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:

·        Employee may be subject to random drug testing.

·        Employee may be required to work other than normal duty hours, which may include evenings, weekends, and/or holidays.

·        Shift work and emergency overtime may be required.

·        Employee must maintain current certifications.
