This is a Direct Hire Public Notice; under this recruitment procedure, each location/ installation, identified in this Public Notice will accept applications and make selections for vacancies as they occur. These positions are being filled under Medical Direct Hiring Authority for certain civilian healthcare professional positions and are located Air Force-Wide. Positions may be filled as permanent, temporary or term with a full-time or part-time work schedule. Pay will vary by geographic location.

DUTIES:

·        Follow dental service policies and programs. Maintains familiarity with Air Force and local policy on management of specific oral diseases and defects, forensic dentistry procedures and emergency procedures.

·        Participate in dental and hospital committee activities, as necessary.

·        Perform restoration of teeth with simple and complex cavities with standard and prescribed dental materials in routine and difficult cases.

·        Diagnose and perform root canal therapy on anterior and posterior teeth for both children and adults.

·        Administer local anesthesia as required for treatment and diagnosis of dental diseases.

·        Perform dental treatment on children and adults requiring special management, i.e., medically compromised, young children with management problems and elderly patients.

 

 

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:

Duties and responsibilities vary and may increase according to grade level.

This public notice may be used to fill target grades (e.g. GS-09 Target GS-12).

Salary may increase depending on the specialty of the position.

SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE:  GS-12: Two years of professional dentistry experience and/or training; or superior academic ability defined as that demonstrated by an intern, who on the basis of an evaluation of all interns who have completed training in the same hospital or in the same kind of internship program over the past 5 years, would fall into the upper half of the group OR GS-13: Three years of professional dentistry experience and/or training equivalent to at least that of a Board eligible OR GS-14: One year of professional dentistry experience equivalent to at least the GS-13 grade level. For specialist positions, certification as a diplomat by a national certifying board for a specialized area of practice meets the requirements OR   GS-15: One year of professional dentistry experience equivalent to at least the GS-14 level.

 

AND

 

Licensure: Applicants must be currently licensed to practice dentistry in a State, the District of Columbia, or Puerto Rico.

 

Experience and/or training must be one of the following types:

Post-licensure professional experience in the general practice of dentistry.

Approved internship training.

Approved residency training.

Graduate-level study in an accredited dental school.

Post-licensure professional experience in a specialized area of practice.

Other advanced study or training (outside a dental school or hospital) creditable towards satisfaction of training program requirements for Board eligibility.

 

Additional Requirements for Grades GS-12 and Above:

Approved internship; approved residency-Training in a hospital dental internship or residency approved by the Council on Dental Education of the American Dental Association.

Graduate-level study--Either dental graduate study leading to an advanced degree such as Master of Science, or postgraduate (nondegree) dental school study involving a level of instruction comparable to that provided in a graduated degree program.

National certifying board--An examining board in a special area of dental practice recognized by the Council on Dental Education of the American Dental Association.

Board eligibility--Qualification for examination by a national certifying board as a result of having met the advanced training program requirements for a dental specialty.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES (KSAs):  Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the following areas: 

 

1.    Knowledge of dental science such as oral anatomy, oral physiology and histology, the principles and techniques of restorative dentistry and dental materials.

2.    Knowledge of dental principles such as periodontics, endodontics, oral surgery and prosthodontics.

3.    Knowledge of medical diseases such as cancer, diabetes and heart disease as they relate to the care and treatment of oral cavity.

4.    Skill and dexterity in manipulating a variety of instruments while performing specialized dental procedures.

5.    Ability to communicate both orally and in writing.

 

 

PART-TIME OR UNPAID EXPERIENCE: Credit will be given for appropriate unpaid and or part-time work.  You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week.

FOREIGN EDUCATION: Education completed in foreign colleges or universities may be used to meet the requirements. You must show proof the education credentials have been deemed to be at least equivalent to that gained in conventional U.S. education program.  It is your responsibility to provide such evidence when applying.

ADDITIONAL CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:

·        Employee is subject to random drug testing.

·        Employee may be required to work other than normal duty hours, which may include evenings, weekends, and/or holidays.

·        Shift work and emergency overtime may be required.

·        Employees must maintain current certifications.
