Position will provide coverage as silenced independent practitioner in all levels of care within the organization as needed to ensure patient care operations are met. Levels of care include: Primary Care, Employee Health, Compensation and Pension, Home Based Primary Care, Community Living Center, Acute Care and Residential Care.  Executes position responsibilities that demonstrate leadership, experience, and creative approaches to management of complex client care.  Provides leadership in the application of the nursing process to client care, organizational processes and/or systems, improving outcomes at the program or service level. Plans, implements and evaluates programs based on age specific requirements of the clients.  Initiates interdisciplinary projects to improve organizational performance.  Uses the professional standards of care and practice to evaluate programs and/or service activities.  Implements an educational plan to meet changing program or service needs for self and others.  Maintains knowledge of current techniques, trends and professional issues.  Coaches colleagues in team building. Makes sustained contributions to health care by sharing expertise in and/or external to the medical center.  Provides leadership in identifying and addressing ethical issues that impact client and staff, including initiating and participating in ethics consultations.  Uses the group process to identify, analyze, and resolve care problems.  Collaborates with others in research activities to improve care.  Manages program resources (human, material or informational) to facilitate safe effective and efficient care.

BASIC REQUIREMENTS:  

·         U.S. citizenship

·         Current unrestricted Licensure and Certification  

 

A nurse practitioner must be licensed or otherwise recognized as a nurse practitioner in a State, possess a master’s degree from a program accredited by the NLNAC or CCNE, and maintain full and current certification as a nurse practitioner from the American Nurses Association or another nationally recognized certifying body.  [The certification must be in the specialty to which the individual is being appointed or selected.]

 

Applicant's education and length of nursing practice (experience) will be considered by a Nurse Professional Standards Board in determining the grade and salary of the applicant selected.   Experience as a RN and NP will be evaluated to determine if the experience is of an acceptable level of quality with regard to the following four dimensions of nursing: Practice, Professional Development, Collaboration and Scientific Inquiry. Each dimension of practice has criteria that demonstrate essential core competencies for VHA Nursing Personnel. The criteria are as follows: Practice: practice, ethics and resource utilization, Professional Development: performance, education/career development, Collaboration; collaboration, collegiality, Scientific Inquiry: quality of care, research.     Education/Experience Requirements:

Receiving Service Credit for Earning Annual (Vacation) Leave:  Federal Employees earn annual leave at a rate (4, 6 or 8 hours per pay period) which is based on the number of years they have served as a Federal employee.   VA may offer newly-appointed Federal employees credit for their job-related non-federal experience or active duty uniformed military service.  This credited service can be used in determining the rate at which they earn annual leave.
