JOB SUMMARY:

This is an Air Reserve Technician (ART) Enlisted position.

Air Reserve Technicians are part of the regular civil service and enjoy all the benefits granted to Federal employees in the competitive civil service.  In addition, ARTs are required to maintain active membership in an Air Force Reserve unit so long as they occupy Air Reserve Technician positions. As members of reserve units, ARTs receive on average one weekend of military training per month. In addition, they are eligible for 15 days active duty tour each year for which military leave is granted with full civilian pay. Air Reserve units and members are subject to immediate call to active duty in mobilization to meet a national emergency.

This occupation includes jobs involved in rebuilding, overhauling, installing, troubleshooting, repairing, modifying, calibrating, aligning, and maintaining integrated systems, i.e., where the output of a number of sensors subsystems are integrated in a logic subsystem and the resultant used to modify the operation of the total system.  Examples are; fire control, flight/landing control, bombing-navigation, and electronic warfare or multiple integrated electronic systems composed of several of these systems which are closely interrelated and interdependent.

A specific length of experience or training is not required. However, you must have had experience and/or training (military or civilian, paid or unpaid) of sufficient scope and quality to be able to perform the duties of the specific position for which you are applying. CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT: 

Position may or will require incumbent to:
(1) Fly in military and/or commercial aircraft in the performance of temporary duty (TDY) assignments. (2) Must meet and maintain Air Force Reserve requirements.   Incumbent's regular assignments are primarily ART duties: however, the incumbent may be assigned some non-ART duties, generally not to exceed 30 percent of total responsibilities.  (3)
May be required to work uncommon tours of duty.

Use the following Job Elements as a guide to assist you in identifying your relevant work experience: Element A - Ability To Do the Work Without More Than Normal Supervision--What work can you do by yourself without the help of a boss or supervisor?  Give examples of the kinds of instruction your supervisor gives you when you start a task.  Tell about experiences you have had that shows you can work on the basis of your own judgment. (Screening Element) ; Element B - Ability to Use and Maintain Tools and Equipment--Lost the hand tools, power tools, specialized tools, and related support equipment that you have used and give brief examples of the work performed with each;  Element C - Knowledge of Equipment Assembly, Installation, and Repair-- List the kids of equipment you have had to assemble; make; install; test; or repair.  Give examples of the work you performed on the equipment such as assemble disassemble; install; test; maintain; repair; troubleshoot; calibrate; modify; and design. Element H - Theory of Electronics-- Tell about your schooling, training and experience that shows your knowledge of the science of electronics; principles, basic functions and application to include Electro-magnetism, alternating current, direct current, vacuum tubes, circuit analysis, rectification, detection, modulation, transmission, wave propagation, oscillation, amplification, feedback, resonance, filter, and  crystal action.  Give dates of courses, course titles,a and level of instruction .  Have you taught or explained theory?  If so, give types of persons taught and subject matter. Element J -Troubleshooting-- Give examples of your experience troubleshooting equipment.  Show the extent to which you had to understand the entire system to isolate the problem. Tell extent of danger to equipment if incorrectly handled while troubleshooting.  Give examples of the more difficult troubleshooting you have done.  Element N - Electronic Diagrams and Schematics -- Give examples of electronic drawings, schematics, and diagrams that you can read.  Describe your ability to read and interpret diagrams for electronic equipment.  Also describe your ability to identify electronic components and symbols by listing those you have worked with and give brief descriptions of each.
