JOB SUMMARY:

Join dedicated outpatient clinical staff whose joint efforts with individuals, families, and communities prevent and treat illness. The Indian Health Service in the Pacific Northwest provides healthcare to American Indians and Alaska Natives living in Oregon, Washington, and Idaho.

This position serves as a Locum Pharmacist who works in the place of the regular and specialist pharmacist when that pharmacist is absent, or when a clinic is short-staffed working at one of the health care centers. The Locum Pharmacist must able to fill in for pharmacy assignments in all clinics despite the transient nature of the position.

This position is assigned an intermittent work schedule which means employment is without a regularly scheduled tour of duty; on call, whenever needed, and only paid for actual hours worked. Travel and per diem costs to temporary duty station will be paid according to Federal travel regulations. Assigned salary is based upon meeting qualifications at specific grade level and/or possession of superior qualifications.

If hired, you will be assigned to a Temporary, Excepted Temporary, Excepted Time-Limited, or Term appointment. The Agency has option of extending Time-Limited and Term appointments for up to a maximum of four years. Temporary positions not to exceed 12 months or less are subject to termination at any time. The Agency has option of extending Temporary position appointments for up to a maximum of two years.

This Open Continuous Announcement allows acceptance of applications throughout the year with eligible applicants being placed on a standing register and referred for consideration as vacancies occur. How Do I Qualify for the Job?

You must show evidence of your related experience on your resume and then provide copies of college transcripts of your education and current license. Qualification requirements listed below are prescribed in Office of Personnel Management qualification guidelines. Please see the “How To Apply" Section for details on how to document your qualifications.

Basic Requirements: Four-year bachelor's degree in pharmacy recognized by the American Council on Pharmaceutical Education. Applicants who meet the basic requirements qualify for GS-7.

Licensure: All applicants must be licensed to practice pharmacy in a State, territory of the United States or the District of Columbia.

Medical Requirements:All applicants must be able to distinguish basic colors.

Additional Experience Requirements for Grades GS-09 and above

For GS-09: Successful completion of a 5-year course of study leading to a bachelor's or higher degree in pharmacy from an approved pharmacy school, or 1 year of professional pharmacy experience equivalent to at least GS-7.

For GS-11: Successful completion of a 6-year course of study leading to a Doctor of Pharmacy (Pharm.D.) degree; 1 (one) year of professional pharmacy experience equivalent to at least GS-09;

For GS-12: One year of professional pharmacy experience equivalent to at least GS-11;

Examples of professional pharmacy experience include performing duties such as providing pharmacy services and the preparation of the complete range of sterile products and intravenous additives for ambulatory care medical facility; taking steps to prevent drug reactions or interactions; ensuring correct labeling, handling and storage of pharmaceutical products; advising physicians of possible safety issues; compounding drugs as prescribed, including IV and chemotherapy drugs; teaching pharmacy techniques/procedures to other pharmacists; or experience conducting studies of drugs to determine their effectiveness and safety.

Indian Preference applicants will be rated in accordance with the Indian Health Service Excepted Service Qualification (Preston) Standards. Time-In-Grade requirements, if applicable, will not apply to Excepted Service Examining Plan applicants.

WHAT TO EXPECT NEXT:

First notification: Once the online questionnaire and resume are received, you will receive an acknowledgement email that your submission was successfully received. Receipt of this email does not confirm receipt of the other required document(s): copy of your license or completed OF-306 Addendum form.
