This announcement is not intended to cover all the duties, responsibilities or qualifications of this position.  The position is full time permanent located in Engineering Service, West Texas VA Health Care System, Big Spring, Texas.  Incumbent is assigned to the Bio-medical Section of Engineering Service under the supervision of the Supervisory Bio-medical Equipment Specialist.  This position specializes in the service management of complex bio-medical instrumentation used in the diagnosis, treatment, therapy and care of patients at this facility and extension clinics.  The incumbent performs duties of a broad scope and complexity.  Responsibilities include analyzing, developing, designing, modifying, installing, evaluating, certifying and correcting system malfunctions on numerous major medical systems.  This incumbent is responsible for the performance of vital and complex medical instrumentation including functional operation as well as patient/operator safety.  The incumbent will almost always work independently and have the primary responsibility for the maintenance, proper operation installation, testing and repair of one or more classifications of vital and complex medical instrumentation.  This equipment shall include, but is not limited to the following: general radiology equipment, CT scanners, fixed and portable X-ray machines, EKG machines, defibrillators, respirators, chemical analyzers, atomic spectrometers, blood cell counters, sterilizers, pill counters, infusion devices, dental equipment, etc.  The incumbent serves as a technical advisor and consultant to clinicians in the operations of the systems, purchase of new instrumentation, designing of new systems and modifying systems to meet special needs.  The incumbent provides expertise in the design and construction of equipment sites for complex and bio-medical instruments and systems.  In addition to other duties as assigned.

To qualify for this position you must meet all requirements at the time you apply for this position.

Time-in-grade:  Applicants who are current Federal employees and have held a GS grade any time in the past 52 weeks must also meet time-in-grade requirements.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENT FOR GS-7:

Qualifying experience for the GS-7 level requires one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-5 level  (specialized experience is experience that equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform successfully the duties of the position as described above, and is in or related to the position to be filled) OR one full year of graduate level education.

 

MINIMUM REQUIREMENT FOR GS-9:

Qualifying experience for the GS-9 level requires one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-7 level (specialized experience is experience that equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform successfully the duties of the position as described above, and is in or related to the position to be filled) OR a master’s or equivalent graduate degree or two full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree OR LL.B. or J.D. (if related).

 

MINIMUM REQUIREMENT FOR GS-11:

Qualifying experience for the GS-11 level requires one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-9 level (specialized experience is experience that equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform successfully the duties of the position as described above, and is in or related to the position to be filled) OR a Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree OR three full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree OR LL.M. (if related).
