MINIMUM QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENT FOR GS-7 LEVEL:
EXPERIENCE: You must have (1) one full year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-6 level. This experience must be close to the work of this position that required application of the knowledge, methods, and techniques to successfully perform the duties of a Surgical Technician. Examples of specialized experience include but are not limited to performing in a surgical program providing assistance to the surgical team in highly complex surgical procedures; handling urological instrumentation and equipment or other types of surgical instrumentation, supplies, and equipment during all surgical procedures and diagnostic procedures; applying knowledge commonly used in a urological setting to include urologic radiological studies; working knowledge of laser, cyrotherapy, ultrasound, and uroflow machines; operating various types of urology tables and radiology equipment; preparing, organizing, and maintaining highly complex sterile surgical setups; observing and responding to each stage of a surgical procedure to anticipate the needs of the surgeon; handling specimens appropriately; and reinforcing teaching, and conducting training activities or instructing others in Operating Room procedures such as scrub role in surgical procedures. NOTE: Experience must be fully documented on your Resume and/or OF-612 and must include job title, duties, month & year start/end dates AND hours worked per week.
EDUCATION: You must have successfully completed (1) one full year of graduate education (or 18 semester hours) or an internship in course matter that must include courses directly related to the work of the position such as Anatomy and Physiology, Biology, Chemistry, Surgical Technology, Aseptic Techniques etc. This education must have been obtained in an accredited college or university.
